few months ago i encountered a problem that applet in mozilla (in any of its versions) can't display traditional chinese correctly has been solved. i suppose it's because last time the fontset, such as mingliu.ttc, didn't register properly into x window system. so, via following up user firefly's article, it utilized ttfm.sh to setup fonts first for later used in x window system (as gloabl to all programs). then, i only copied font.properties.zh_TW into $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ folder. it's all ok. <br>i am not very sure what the ttfm.sh does, so i can only guess that it make fontsets to be global to all other programs in compared with steps last time i did via my own hand (i copied necessary fonts like mingliu.ttc into $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/fonts/ and edit fonts.dir under $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/fonts/; thus it appears that the mozilla installed via root displayed big5 character correctly, but via non-root account it didn't
. and that's the first step.<br>second, copy font.properties.zh_TW into $JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/.<br>those steps are which i suppose necessary for display big5 correctly either in applet in mozilla or in programming java. and the reason i post this article is because i suppose it can be simplified through simply editin' some necessary files and copying font files into correct folders - that the ttfm.sh did - without root's configration. (i do not know too much about shell script, so hope someone be able to give me some suggestions or tell me what the ttfm.sh does)<br>regards,
