Thunderbird provides an open-source, cross-platform email alternative for those of us who still use stand-alone email clients (and I am one). It’s trust-worthy, it’s under your control, and it’s built to reflect the Mozilla mission. Once again we’ve been asking the question: is Thunderbird a likely source of innovation and of leadership in today’s Internet life? Or is Thunderbird already pretty much what its users want and mostly needs some on-going maintenance?

Much of Mozilla’s leadership — including that of the Thunderbird team — has come to the conclusion that on-going stability is the most important thing, and that continued innovation in Thunderbird is not a priority for Mozilla’s product efforts. (For more information about the path to this conclusion, see the “Background Information” section below.) As a result, the Thunderbird team has developed a plan that provides both stability for Thunderbird’s current state and allows the Thunderbird community to innovate if it chooses.

In this plan, Mozilla will provide security updates through an Extended Support Release process. We will also maintain mechanisms for the Thunderbird community to organize for ongoing development. Here are additional details about this plan. If you are a Thunderbird user and are interested in more details, please follow the discussion at the two URLs above or in the Thunderbird online channels. If you are a Thunderbird developer, join the discussion in the Thunderbird development forums.

Thunderbird is an important product for many people — I am one of them. If you’re one of us and want to get involved in building Thunderbird, now is the time. For Thunderbird users, the Extended Support Release process will provide security maintenance updates.

看起來 Mozila 未來將以網際網路平台為重點的開發工作。

Mozilla 宣布發棄開發 Thunderbird 的時間點非常有趣，因為 Thunderbird 在一個月之前才剛發布新版本，提供個人化電子郵件和大型檔案分享等新功能，不過一個月之後，Mozilla 就宣布未來的開發重點僅提供安全和穩定性。

Thunderbird 還不至於算 Game Over 或 GG。

雖然我也是用Thunderbird取代公司裡所有人都在用的Outlook。
而且Thunderbird本身一直有某些開發上的認知問題，例如許多使用者要求把編輯信件也放在分頁裡，卻一直沒有下文…更不用說某些問題還得用套件去修補，如果你向我一樣也用使用Provider for Google Calendar，那麼每次昇級都要去特別確認有沒有對應的Lightning和Provider for Google Calendar能用，那會是很麻煩的事情，弄不好就被神隱。

來晚了，想到剛買了一本整理使用Gmail的書就看到這則新聞…謝謝陪了我接近一年的Thunderbird，公司信我得找新家去了orz

Lightning 都可以用阿！
Thunderbird 只是沒新功能了，安全性應該免強還擋的住...

抱歉，題外話一下，
請問假如對方Outlook常常對方收不到本人Outlook發的信件，
是不是改用Thunderbird就有所改善呢？

可Comodo的CIS實在是又和Thunderbird合不來啊囧

Mozilla砍了Thunderbird 開源郵件軟體 VR-Zone中文站 2012/07/08 Mozilla 宣布未來 Thunderbird 將不會是公司資源開發重點。新聞稿中， Mozilla 表示它並不是完全放棄 Thunderbird，而是「由於 Mozilla 的遠大目標，在 Thunderbird 上持續創新，並不是公司資源最好的運用方式」……看起來是被砍了沒錯！未來 Mozilla 還是會釋出 Thunderbird 的安全性更新和臭蟲修正，但不再開發新功能。不過 Thunderbird 是開放源碼軟體，因此它未來是能夠由個人或是其他組織維持和開發。至於 Mozilla 則會將開發重點放在最近更名為 Firefox OS 的 B2G 行動平台、新的網頁開發工具 Thimble 和 iPad 上的 WebKit 瀏覽器 Junior 、Firefox 行動瀏覽器等。看起來 Mozila 未來將以網際網路平台為重點的開發工作。 Mozilla 宣布發棄開發 Thunderbird 的時間點非常有趣，因為 Thunderbird 在一個月之前才剛發布新版本，提供個人化電子郵件和大型檔案分享等新功能，不過一個月之後，Mozilla 就宣布未來的開發重點僅提供安全和穩定性。Mozilla 將會在週一公布停止開發 Thunderbird 的細節，並和有興趣接手的個人與組織討論。

Thunderbird 還不至於算 Game Over 或 GG。最近幾年觸控手機和社群網站當道，除非是企業或學校/政府機關，不然使用 Mail 的機會其實不多。 Thunderbird 被 Mozilla 拋棄（？）只是時間早晚的問題，不需要太過驚訝於這件事情。

剛剛看到YAHOO的科技新聞實在是太讓我震驚了我從outlook express 到outlook都用過而且都用過好一陣子最後還是跳槽到mozilla旗下的收發信軟體 thunderbird 雖然可以透過擴充套件來增加功能和下載佈景主題但是 thunderbird 本身其實不用太多的擴充套件就是一個相當好用的軟體雖然目前所謂的雲端技術當道，但是我覺得這類可離線使用軟體還是有它存在的必要性阿...

某A 寫: taglife 寫: Lightning 都可以用阿！ Thunderbird 只是沒新功能了，安全性應該免強還擋的住... 我的意思是就是因為不再會有任何改進了什麼時候會停止只是遲早的事情所以還是得去預備一下… 結果我本來要換回去Outlook的，4基嘎多的信卻怎麼匯都匯不回去可Comodo的CIS實在是又和Thunderbird合不來啊囧在回不去Outlook之下，變換防毒改用MS的MSSE省事…反正Windows 8就會理所當然的內建它^_^ 不過繼續用Thunderbird就是找信的速度快，而且Portable版還不用匯來匯去的。信幾個基嘎也不用怕會暴掉…

弟認為m基金會實在不應該小看電子郵件，近年來影響資訊革命最大的一位人物，已故的賈伯斯先生，在每一支 iOS 裝置內必備的幾樣 APP 中就包括了 MAIL。弟還記得每一次蘋果新產品發表會上賈伯斯先生都會再強調，這次的 MAIL 又做了什麼改進，是 "全世界最好用的 MAIL" 軟體，可見它的重要性。
