IETF已通過IDN 標準 :
1. RFC 3490 IDNA: Internationalizing Domain Names in Applications
2. RFC 3491 Nameprep: A Stringprep Profile for Internationalized Domain Names
3. RFC 3492 Punycode: A Bootstring encoding of Unicode for Internationalized Domain Names in Applications
firefox已支援,如可輸入 http://台灣大學 或 http://清華大學.tw/ 皆會轉碼punycode成(http://xn--kpr44j33b790b.tw ) 和(http://xn--pssu7c921afvu.tw ) 而Thunderbird 似乎沒做轉碼,
請問未來Thunderbird 會把IDN功能做進來 嗎?
台灣這邊是否有改寫這段的技術能力?

想請問一下，如果TB支援此一功能，會有哪些好處？
以郵件軟體的角度而言，是否可以列舉出優點呢？

剛剛稍微看一下 IDN 的資料，個人一時間感覺不到有什麼太大的好處

IDN已通過RFC標準, 這是網路運用趨勢,大大降低網路使用門檻,對大多數人要記的 http://台灣大學.tw 遠比記得http://www.ntu.edu.tw 容易多,
把mail 把IDN 這部份加進來, 發展出來的IDN mail 同樣也會降低使用門檻與容易記的, 舉個例子來說 則mail address就會變成王大中@台灣大學.tw ,如果是 王大中@台灣大學.台灣 可能就更優了 ,目前RFC有了, IDN libary 也有了, 欠缺的就差使用者介面, 可悲的大多數人跟微軟屁股在走, 微軟系統是太大隻,要修改部份太多 進度慢 因此它的IE ,outlook 目前還未支援, 但據微軟表示 已在修改當中, 而netscape 和Mozlla brower 已經把IDN作進去了,目前就所知道的mail 這部份就foxmail有把IDN作進來,而其它還在coding階段, 我想信有能力把Thunderbird 中文化 一定有能力把IDN功能加進來, 剩下的只是願不願意做的問題了
