Before I start, I know that I am likely to face attack on this. However, I believe a good forum should accept negative comments.

Jeffrey Zeldman, co-founder of The Web Standards Projects, conducted some test between Firefox (Mac version) and Safari.

From his findings, Firefox's handling of text is poor. Safari does a much better in terms of displaying text.

He tested italic text displaying with one font (Lucida Sans) comes with genuine italic in it, and another font (Lucida Grande) which does not have italic, in this case, browsers have to "fake" italics.

For font that comes with genuine italics, Firefox scored "poor (buggy) text handling" while Safari scored "much better text handling".
For font that does not have italics in it, Firefox scored "acceptable text handling" while Safari scored "superior text handling".

He also noted that Firefox's hyphenation does not work. (Even Microsoft's discontinued IE 5 (Mac) supported hyphenation.)

Please note, all test were conducted on Mac OS X, with fonts available on Mac as well as Mac OS X's stunning Quartz technology.

If you read a lot with web browser, you should probably go for Safari, as it displays text much better than Firefox, making the reading more enjoyable.

And we also know that Firefox browser has notpassed Acid2 test. Safari passed Acid2 test.

另外也討論到連字符的換行問題，Safari 會將連字符後的文字換行顯示，Firefox 只會把連字符的兩端當成同一個字、要換一起換。

無論何者，依原文論點，在測試結果中 Safari 都做得比 Firefox 好。

在 Windows 下，使用 Fx 讀取測試網頁，倒是沒有無緣無故變粗體的情形，粗斜體也比 Fx 在 Mac OS X 好看，至於和 Safari 比哪個好看，我覺得差不多說。

Fx 真正不如 Safari 的，大概是對 hyphen 的處理吧。
